RSS And Business Directory – Hell And Hope

Recent Blog Problems and Resolutions.

Well, I’m going to keep this short, but I thought it was worth a mention, if for no other reason than to provide you with a guy who can resolve any issues you may be experiencing with you’re your blog, and at what I consider a very reasonable price. Consequent to having recently used his services, I have decided to resort to him for any future difficulties I may have, and recommend him to you as a person who gets the job done with: a) a minimum of fuss, b) at a very competitive price, and c) within a reasonable amount of time. So, what were the problems I was experiencing? Well, the first issue is one with which I believe we’re all too familiar, and that is RSS feeds. I really felt like I was going to crack over this issue. Yes, I took out all the blanks etc., but no it didn’t resolve the issue. RSS Bug + FeedBurner Issues + Business Directory Bug = Misery At least when there’s a problem lurking unseen, but manifesting itself as line and code or syntactical errors, to which one seems to be able to find little or no advice, no real plugins which address the issues of cleaning the syntax properly, and only manifest themselves as extremely annoying taunting errors, which have you doing psychological loop-the-loops. Yes, I was beyond tearing out my hair, and had moved on to tearing the flesh from my face with my fingernails. However, before coming across a resolution, or the above mentioned, and as yet unnamed person, to assist me in a resolution; I decided to make things worse for myself by installing another plugin – a Business Directory plugin from the guys at Square Compass.

The Safely Sourcing China Business Directory

The Safely Sourcing China Business Directory

It’s a very nice plugin, and generates a very useful interactive function to business related websites; if one can only convince people to actually use it. Anyway, I noticed that after someone had registered their company details, the actual directory output page failed to wrap the text, overshot the page, and butted my sidebar down to the bottom of the page. Not very nice to look at! So, now I had two problems instead of my original hair-pulling one: a) nobody could access my feeds, and b) I had a very ugly and un-professional looking business directory listing page. Well, having already run out of hair due to my psychotic episodes of hair-wrenching and plucking mania, wholly due to my lack of feed; I was now running out of flesh to tear from my face due to this Business Directory bug that just… well… …bugged me. I then went on the hunt for further help and assistance. Very quickly, after visiting the Business Directory Forum, I discovered that a couple of others had experienced the very same issue, and that in the several months since their request for assistance on the forum, no help was forthcoming. I grew desperate, and searched again for assistance. It was at this point that I came across a young guy living in the Philippines called Larry; here, you can visit Larry’s website www.FixWordPress.net. I informed Larry of my problems, and 4 hours and 35 minutes and $91.80 later, both problems had gone. Larry had downloaded my database, cleanly reinstalled WordPress, re-inserted my database, had my RSS feeds up and running, and had found the code error, which had still not been addressed by it’s writers even after being aware of it for several months via their forum, and fixed it. “Happy” seems a less than suitable adjective, but we’ll use it nevertheless; Yes, I was very happy. Larry has illustrated the issues, and openly provided the bug-fix for the Business Directory on his website here. So, it behooves me now only to say, thanks again Larry, and recommend him to anyone else with WordPress issues. I do hope you enjoyed my tail of woe, and it’s happy ending.

The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same – When Is A Blog Not A Blog?

Well, I decided that although I like the look of the blog here at yourchinatradingpartner.com/blog, and that WordPress has a great deal to say for itself, as a very manageable blogging tool; I just felt it was a wee bit slow. I mean, you come to the YourChinaTradingPartner.Com page, and you get a very nice fast load. However, when you drop down a directory into the blog, I found it to very often take a monumentally long time to load the page, and it was driving me nuts. So, to solve the problem, and generate a lot of new work for myself, I built an HTML version of the blog, and slapped it on its’ own host at www.SafelySourcingChina.com. Of course, this has presented me, the novice, with certain issues, such as how to make an RSS feed of my new HTML version of the blog. However, after a little searching I managed to find a way of doing it which suits me down to the ground. Indeed, once I’d organised my RSS, I then went and tried feeding it to FeedBurner, and it went through far more smoothly than the horror story that was my feeds, here on the blog, just a week ago, when i had to hire someone to sort it out for me. CLICK! and I was done. I couldn’t believe how easy it was. I’ll continue to post here, but I’ll also post the material on the new blog too, for those who prefer a speedier, if less glossy, access portal to my stuff. If anyone’s interested in how to set up an RSS feed for their blog, then I suggest you simply go where I went, and all will be made clear. Here’s the link: rapidfeeds.com By the way, I just tried putting the annimated feed link bar in here from FeedBurner, but WordPress just wouldn’t have it, and I’ve had to rewrite, and delete this article 4 times to try and dump the scramble of code left here. I like the UTILITY of WordPress, but I prefer the ease and speed of HTML. For me, WordPress has presented me with a number of issues, a few of which are still unresolved. That’s it for now, folks. UPDATE I managed to get an HTML blog sorted quite nicely, but found updating feeds to be a bit of a drag, and so finally decided to move the WordPress version of the blog here, as you can now see, and have probably noted.

Setting Up The Blog, And All The Fun It Wasn’t

Well, what can I say? Setting up this blog has proven to be easy in some ways, but extremely difficult and annoying in others.

A Few Hours In To Stting Up The Blog

A Few Hours In To Setting Up The Blog

I’ve tried so many different skins for the forum, it’s starting to become tangible, and I feel like I’m changing my own skin, in a weird chameleonic way, and now I’ve started to hate themes.

Sour grapes, of course!

I’m discovering simplicity is what one needs, when dealing with themes. Those themes that throw up a “Home” tab, but then you can’t find a page called “Home” anywhere on your site, and which have bugged the hell out of me for seemingly endless hours.

In the end I found the current theme, and felt it provided me the easiest route into establishing a blog on which a) I could operate with relative ease, and b) where visitors could navigate their way with equal ease.

It’s all so crazily addictive, as I find myself sitting here like a man possessed, trying to figure this whole thing out, as I miss my meals, and unwillingly drag myself off to the toilet, afraid something will happen to my set-up. Perhaps I’ll buy some of those underwear being sold in Japan, into which you can calmly pee, and then later empty somewhere?

Still, one sore bottom, one splitting headache, twenty-three cups of ‘Pu-Erhtea, and fourteen trips to the toilet later, I have a working blog!

I must look like a junky by now (I feel like one), what with my waxy, wan, drawn face, and my bulging staring eyes ogling the screen, whilst my hands shake and tremble from massive tea ingestion.

I think I can safely stop now, and take break before putting in any further additional content.

I’ve just been to the window for a quick look outside. A storm is brewing, as is evident by the very thick and low cloud, bring visibility right down. The sky has that electric green-grey look to it; and one has the feeling that should though anyone light a match in the city today, they would ignite the whole thing and we’d by wiped off the map.

Get the Canary and the cage!

And freak of freaks!

After getting the site just how I wanted it, I then thought to myself that my URL was just a tad too long. So, I thought I’d try and move it to another directory, which didn’t work, then I moved it back, and something got lost, and I buggered the whole thing up, and had to start again.

There has been much wailing and gnashing of teeth.

At 44, having survived a multitude of physical and mental calamities in my life, I find myself almost broken by my …. Blog… Aghh…. Sob.. Sob…

Then, on the positive side, I have learned a lot, and now get to have my blog with a greatly reduced URL.

Choirs Of Heavenly Angels, Replace The Wailing Of Banshees In My Head!

Choirs Of Heavenly Angels, Replace The Wailing Of Banshees In My Head!

Yes, folks, that’s life!

Sometimes it really does give you what you want. Just not in the way you wanted or expected it.

Still… Destination reached, and goal achieved, from the darkness comes the light.

Now all I have to do is put back all the content I’d so wisely saved.
